Rinicom Coordinates the 6 Million Euro Project NEXES

Rinicom Ltd, a leading provider of wireless broadband mesh communications and surveillance systems, announced it has been awarded the grant funding of 6 million for the coordination of the NEXES Research and Innovation Action. The award was given to Rinicom and the NEXES partners by the European Commission in April to foster the latest developments in IP-based communications technologies and interoperability for the emergency services.

“NEXES is a key landmark of Rinicom’s success, and we are very enthusiastic to lead this European initiative towards the European standardisation of emergency services”, said Prof. Garik Markarian, CEO of Rinicom. Rinicom’s Director of Innovation, Marco Manso, will be responsible for the development of NEXES and its main innovations, including “the opportunity to use total conversation capabilities, including social media, in emergency situations, which is also relevant for all those citizens experiencing disability or having special needs. NEXES will bring about a more inclusive, democratic and universal emergency service to our society”, explained Mr. Manso. He also highlights that “NEXES exploits thoroughly improved location information, to rapidly ascertain the localisation of the caller or an incident site. NEXES will allow emergency services to accurately pinpoint the location of emergency callers, improving response time and helping to save lives”.Coordinated by Rinicom, NEXES gathers seventeen organisations from ten countries that are experts in communications, interoperability and emergency operations and are able to provide their comprehensive expertise to produce innovative emergency services that meet the needs and ambitions of citizens and of emergency services across Europe and beyond.

NEXES is a Research and Innovation Action funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 653337. NEXES will research and validate the integration of IP-based communication technologies and interoperability in the next generation emergency services, enabling: (i) the use of total conversation capabilities; (ii) the exploitation of improved location; and (iii) the enhanced interoperability and shared awareness among emergency services, to the benefit of a more secure society.
