Best Student Award from Rinicom
Rinicom enhanced its collaborative links with the Department of Communication Systems of Lancaster University by awarding the “Best Student Award” to Miss Kate Lund, for her outstanding Project. The award was presented by Dr. Sean Sonander, Managing Director of Rinicom, in the presence of Prof. Paul Welling, the Lancaster University Vice Chancellor and Prof. Mary Smyth, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science – 24.11.08
Rinicom and Lancaster University Help New
Rinicom Ltd and Lancaster University are helping to provide internet connectivity for a town near Chernobyl in a UK Government funded £750,000 project to help regenerate the area which was devastated by the accident in April 1986. The town of Slavutych in the Ukraine was built after the accident to house evacuated workers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the abandoned town of Pripyat. Slavutych has 25,000 inhabitants and, although it is undergoing a process of development and diversification away from its single industry town status, economic growth is being hampered by a lack of modern and reliable telecommunications, especially internet connectivity. The work is well under way and should be completed by February 2009 at which point the newly installed network will be used to broadcast a ‘live’ TV images from Slavutych to the Department of Energy and Climate Change in London.- 22.11.08
