Underground infrastructures, such as critical infrastructures tunnels (underground escape tunnels), the Euro tunnel, the London underground network, mining sites, subway systems, etc., consist of tunnel networks that meander deep under the earth's surface and usually have thick concrete walls. Such environments are often an obstacle to any means of communication.
Rinicom has researched ways to fight those communication obstacles in underground environments and as a result, COFDM modulation was applied to a number of our products (Watch Video). COFDM is more widely known for features such as: resistance to multipath, non-line of sight operation, mobility support, robustness to errors, etc., thus such a feature-set makes COFDM an ideal choice for exploiting underground.
Part of Rinicom's contribution to the INFRA project our PodNode Mesh System was successfully implemented for application in Madrid's underground.
PodNode, a wireless COFDM IP mesh modem by Rinicom is an ideal solution for those seeking a robust communication solution in the toughest environment possible. Rinicom has been deploying PodNode as a backhaul solution for its customers, wanting to establish communication links in concrete tunnels and mining sites and in most cases PodNode has exceeded expectations.
